PREREQUESITES:

Age at least 17 upon completion and pass a Third-class medical exam.

OVERVIEW:

First you'll learn operation and handling of the airplane. Then you'll start working on basic maneuvers and how to take-off and land. When ready, you'll make your first solo and continue making solo flights to practice what you have learned.

Next, you'll go with your instructor on cross-country flights and learn navigation skills. Before making solo cross-country flights, you'll take the FAA private pilot knowledge test. The last few flights you and your instructor will review everything you've covered in preparation for the test or check ride.

During the check ride, you'll demonstrate to a pilot examiner your proficiency and judgment required by a Private Pilot. The test consists of one-hour oral examination and 1½-hour flight. Upon satisfactory completion you'll receive your Private Pilot License, which will permit you to act as a pilot in command of a single engine aircraft carrying passengers and property under visual weather conditions, but not for hire.

GROUND TRAINING and FLIGHT INSTRUCTION:

Ground Training covers principles of flight, instruments and systems, performance, weight and balance, federal regulations, weather and navigation. This training uses the Cessna Multimedia Training System to prepare you for your flight lessons and for the FAA private pilot knowledge test.

Flight Instruction consists of a minimum of 27 flights that include 30 hours of dual instruction and 10 of solo flight. You'll become proficient in takeoffs and landings, slow flight and stall prevention, normal and emergency procedures, and navigation.
